From the desk of James Martell

It’s done!

I just put the finishing touches on my first book, "James Martell's Affiliate Marketers Handbook – 2002".

It is a substantial work, consisting of 275 pages, over 44,975 words of text and more than 107 helpful informative illustrations, all of which have been properly formatted, professionally proofread and converted into an easy-to-read and navigate Adobe PDF file.

I was surprized how long it took to put it all together. The project seemed simple enough. I would write in my spare time ...and would be done in a month or two. Or so I thought.

The project began last summer, when I decided to expand a simple 20 page booklet that outlined the steps I followed to create a six-figure income in affiliate marketing. I created the booklet for students of course I was teaching locally on affiliate marketing.

I figured I just clean it up a little, put a nice cover on it and I'd a have a book. Or so I thought...

As I dug into the new project, I began to realize that it was going to be a little more work than I first anticipated. A number of questions began to come to mind:

  • How long will the ebook be when it's finished?
  • Will it contain graphics, illustrations and a cover?
  • I guess I'll need a graphics designer, but who?
  • What format should the ebook published in: Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat or an ebook compiler?
  • Should I use an ebook compiler, if so, which one?
  • Am I going to market the book using an affiliate program, newspaper advertsing, and/or the search engines?
  • Should I start my own affiliate program?
  • Which affiliate software program should I use?
  • Do I need my own website?
  • What about security and theft of my intellectual property?
  • How much does proofreading cost?

On and on the questions went.

Needless to say, I was way too busy to tackle on my own. I was already running a very successful affiliate marketing business full-time. And, with a wife, four kids, being a little league baseball coach and an affiliate marketing instructor my time was already pretty much maxed out.

However, I still wanted to write the book. But how? It was then, when I received the call from a good friend of mine Charles Johnston, who was already a very successful marketer when I ran the idea past him and we decided to collaberate and make the idea a reality.

Well, here I am. At the time of this writing, it's May 29, 2002, just 3 days after my 40th birthday (Ouch, that hurt). I have a completed book, created a website and developed our own affiliate program. We launched on May 10th and we already have new customers and affiliates joining us. I'm happy to say, we've got a winner!

The feedback from my new customers is great!

I learned a lot, and while this new knowledge is till fresh in my mind, I decided to create this site to organize the different ebook tools and services that I stumbled upon during the creation of the new ebook.

So, whether you're planning to self-publish an ebook of your own and don't quite know where to get started, or your a seasoned write and ebook professional, you'll probably find the resources listed on this site very helpful.

Below I've added categories for providers of ebook cover art, e-book compilers, reprint rights, proofreading, affiliate software, pdf viewers, publishers and links to the best step-by-step, how-to-manuals on ebook creation and self-publishing that I have personally come across.

I have also flagged each of the products that I used for this project. In a nutshell, you should find everything you need to know about getting published online within the pages of this site:

Lastly, if making money in affiliate marketing appeals to you -- take a look at my book "James Martell's Affiliate Marketers Handbook – 2002". It a great work ...if I do say so myself. ;)
