Direct publishing veteran Douglas Clegg joins Stealth Press
Douglas Clegg, one of the pioneers in Internet publishing, has joined Stealth Press (www.stealthpress.com) as Director of Online Marketing.
In his new position, Clegg will direct Stealth Press's efforts in developing all avenues of marketing through Internet channels and will further Stealth Press's status as the premier example of the new "direct publishing" business model.
In 1999, he created the Internet's first publisher-sponsored e-serial novel, NAOMI, and then went on to sell both hardcover and paperback rights to the novel. Clegg has become an ebook and Internet book marketing pioneer and evangelist, finding innovative ways to reach communities of readers, writers, and booksellers on the Internet. Clegg is the author of fourteen novels.
Most recently, Doug was employed by BarnesandNoble.com in a variety of positions including editor and buyer. Doug worked for B&N.com (half-owned by German megaconglomerate Bertelsmann) since its inception. Prior to B&N.com, Clegg worked for Ziff-Davis Publishing and KCBS News in Los Angeles. In 2001, Clegg and the novelist M.J. Rose formed The Intercom, an online marketing consultancy for authors and publishers.
"We are extremely fortunate to add Doug Clegg to our team" said Roy Smith, Stealth's VP of Marketing. "Doug is clearly the most experienced and successful player in the "new publishing" realm. He is considered as a defacto industry expert in this area, as his many interviews and quotes in major media show. His enthusiasm for Stealth's direct publishing business model is very gratifying."
Doug Clegg said "Stealth Press is uniquely positioned to reach already-established fans of the novels and writers they're publishing. They have created a new model for big publishing by knowing what books readers love and can't find anywhere else, and delivering beautiful hardcover editions of the beloved: the book, a lost art in and of itself. I feel a great affinity for Stealth Press: they are bridging the Grand Canyons that exist between authors, publishing, the Internet, real world bookstores, and fans."
