Enfocus Software today unveiled its free Certified PDF Reader

In its continuing effort to streamline PDF workflows, Enfocus Software today unveiled its free Certified PDF Reader. The Enfocus Certified PDF Reader is a plug-in for both Adobe Acrobat Reader and the full version of Adobe Acrobat, and enables anyone to check the Certified PDF status of a file. Enfocus Certified PDF status is quickly becoming a de facto standard quality check for the range of PDF documents exchanged around the world. Based on Enfocus’ GATF 2002 InterTech award-winning technology, Certified PDF Reader opens Certified PDF technology to all stakeholders in the workflow, from marketing manager to executive/corporate departments and the prepress/premedia specialist. Each link in the chain of a Certified PDF workflow will now be able to easily check the quality of the file he or she is receiving, or passing on.

Noted prepress consultant Stephan Jaeggi says, “This free Certified PDF Reader is a welcome addition to the Enfocus Workflow. It allows everybody to access the information stored in a Certified PDF document. Everyone, from customer service reps to corporate clients, only need the free Adobe Acrobat Reader together with the free Enfocus Certified PDF Reader to participate in the workflow.” Enfocus Certified PDF Reader:

• Checks whether the file is a Certified PDF;

• Identifies the PDF Profile used to preflight the file; and indicates whether the file successfully passed preflight;

• Permits viewing of any errors and warnings in the summary of the Preflight Report;

• Identifies file creators and editors;

• Permits viewing of the edit log.

The Enfocus Certified PDF Reader comes pre-installed with PDF Standard Profiles used worldwide, such as PDF/X-1a, PDF/X-3 and PDF/X-Plus, and the national PDF standards such as the PDF Profiles from the members of the Ghent PDF Workgroup.

Enfocus Certified PDF: a New Quality Standard Over the past months, Certified PDF has gained acceptance on both sides of the Atlantic as the file format of choice for exchanging files in the Graphic Arts industry. Seven European Industry Associations have set national file Standards based on Enfocus Certified PDF technology.

In the US, Enfocus’ Certified PDF/X-Plus Profiles, which complement PDF/X-1a:2001 requirements with process-specific preflight checks (inspired by the European Quality Standards) and Certified PDF technology, are being accepted as a reliable way to create and exchange print-ready PDF files.
