Free library available with all newly purchased RCA Portable eBook reading devices

Making it even more affordable for Americans to experience reading in a whole new light, Thomson multimedia today announced that all new RCA eBook reading devices sold between August 9, 2001 and September 30, 2001 will come with $200 (suggested retail price) worth of free reading content to newly registered owners. Consumers who purchase either the paperback-sized RCA REB1100 or the color-screen REB1200 will be eligible to build a library from Select Bestsellers, Classics and Periodicals.

Upon product registration through the Gemstar eBook Catalog Service, readers will automatically receive 90-day free subscriptions to both the Gemstar highlights edition of The Wall Street Journal Online and The Washington Post Online and be invited to select up to 33 free books. New eBook owners must register with Gemstar by October 15 to be eligible to receive the free content.

The building blocks of the free library will include three "premiere" titles, such as the recently named Oprah's Book Club Selection Cane River by debut author Lalita Tademy, Parallel Lies by Ridley Pearson or Moving Target by Elizabeth Lowell. Consumers will also have a choice of the highest quality e-editions of 30 classic titles from some of the greatest authors in literature, including William Shakespeare, Charles Dickens and Edgar Allen Poe.

RCA eBook products are now available at a variety of nationwide electronics and office supply retailers.

"We're excited to offer our new customers a variety of free content from great authors of past and current literary acclaim," said Rich Phipps, General Manager of Multimedia Products for Thomson multimedia. "We believe that the value of content and the ability to enhance the paper book reading experience make the eBook device the ideal product for readers of all ages."
